ENGLISH 100: Composition I Mentored Sections In mentored sections of English 100, an experienced student (a graduate student in English or an upper-division student with tutoring experience) has teamed with the course instructor to provide individualized instruction for each student. Mentors attend class and may take part in class discussions and small-group activities such as peer review. Mentors also help students adjust to UHM and plan their academic futures through individual and group meetings on such topics as choosing their five Writing Intensive courses or developing an e-portfolio of their writing. Students meet with their mentor outside of regular class time 3-6 times during the semester. Note: Because not all sections have mentors and because each English 100 professor uses different books and approaches, check the semester’s section descriptions to find the mentored English 100 section that’s best for you.
